On my way home, I snapped a photo of some christmas lights. Testing out my 35mm 1.4g at night. Gotta love that bokeh.
Monday Music: “Bloodflows”, Sohn
Oh man, I’m already behind on my blogging. Poop. Forgot to post this yesterday.
SF Mist
It’s rare to get precipitation these days in SF. I probably should have walked around and snapped some more pictures, but I was kind of lazy. Anyway, here are a couple of pics from the day.
I was at the mall and was returning a pair of jeans I bought from Gap. I saw these plants on my way out. There’s nothing special, but I just loved the colors.
Seriously, there was mist everywhere. I kind of wish I brought my macro lens instead. Doh.
Here’s a picture of the ferry building. I think every single tourist has a photo of this. I wonder if it’d be possible for me to shoot a long enough exposure to get some stars in the background. Hmmmm…
Okay, there’s nothing really special about this photo. I just wanted to show you guys my neighborhood. I will say that I really like how the light reflects of the wet asphalt. I’m going to have to keep this in mind for future photos.
35mm 1.4g with Jia Jia
While I was at cars and coffee, Jia Jia asked me to take a photo of her next to the SF skyline. I snapped a couple pics really quickly to see what the 35mm 1.4g could do at a couple different ranges.
Just a quick disclaimer, I probably could have done a better job with the composition. I realize now that the dock in the background was a bad choice—it’s distracting… and the rocks are a little too tall. They’re visually aligned with her shoulder line, which is doesn’t look awesome. Anyway, I learned a lot from this experiment.
I was about 8′ away from Jia Jia when I shot this. At f1.6, this is pretty good. The was a ton of green fringing around high contrast areas, but I think with the strong color grading, I was able to hide some of the flaws.
I was about 4.5′ when I shot this. While the blurred background looks good, I think I could have shot it at F2.8 to help give the photo more context. I also think that I should have shot this at a different angle because the perspective is so flat. It’s like 3 planes glued together. When shooting at this range, I think I’m going to have to really pay attention to not just the foreground, but what’s happening in the background. The lens is wide enough to give a lot of context.
And lastly, this one was shot at around 3′. Nice separation from the foreground and background. Again, I really need to pay attention to what’s not in focus.
It’s amazing what the 35mm can do. With all those choices, you have to be thoughtful. I’m just amazed at what professional photographers and cinematographers can do.
Cars and Coffee SF
It felt like a light turn out this morning at Cars and Coffee. Here are some of the highlights.
A hideous two tone rolls royce. Yeh, that seems to be gold plating. I don’t really want to knock that guy’s ride, but it’s just poor taste.
Speaking of poor taste, there was this one… It looks like Miley Cyrus vomited on this GTR with a snapchat filter.
There were some redeeming cars like this 458 Italia Speciale.
A nice rear view. You’ve gotta love how the engine is shown through the rear window.
Some Porsches and models posing as photographers swarmed around.
GT4. Yeh, that seems to be the car to have these days.
Days like this, I kind of miss my 911. It’s kind of ironic that I take public transportation to look at Porsches now…
Anyway, more on that later.
I think this was the nicest thing there.
Interestingly enough, the virginia cars and coffee have way more antiques and classics.
For whatever reason, the SF cars and coffee are all about exotics and M3s.
Ford GT. I’m looking forward to checking out the new model.
Look how wide that rear tire is.
And there are always lambos.
I know some people don’t like them… but I actually dig the design.
And the Alpha.
I have yet to test drive this car.
It definitely sounds good.
And last but not least, my ride. The Muni.
