How Does the CERN Atom Smasher Work?

This is probably one of the best explanations of how the CERN particle collider works. It’s wild how the particles get heavier as they get closer to the speed of light.

Higgs boson or ‘God particle’ is a subatomic particle that explains the existence of mass and is considered to be a fundamental building block of the universe.

Now we just have to see what China will accomplish: China to build new collider 60 times faster than the present one. It’s projected to be 60x faster.

Octopus Day

I had no idea today was Octopus Day. Kind of crazy. Learn more about the cognitive capabilities of cephalopods and their close relatives. Pretty fascinating stuff.

Bees Dying

“If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live.”

“There’s growing evidence that fungicides may be affecting the bees on their own and I think what it highlights is a need to reassess how we label these agricultural chemicals,” Dennis vanEngelsdorp, the study’s lead author, told Quartz.

Scientists discover what’s killing the bees. Read more.

Scientists Spoil “Finding Nemo”

But Disney’s kind of swimming around one important fact about clownfish. You see, they can change sex. Uh huh. And a fish biologist says if the Disney folks would keep it real, they’d have Nemo’s dad morph into a female fish and she’d mate with Nemo when he grew up. –CNN

Gotta love science.

Infographic: Origins of Religion

Wow, this is an amazing diagram of all the religions in the last 3000 years. It’s always interesting to see the origins of stuff like this.

BTW, it’d be cool to see one of science as well. Bet it would be the complete reverse, in terms of structure.
