Lambo Desk

Designed by Polish studio RETRO (as a part of their Unique Racing Desks collection), the desk with its classy replication of a Lamborghini’s front-section epitomizes the very phrase – ‘in your face’.

Meadowlark Botanical Garden

Since my dad was in town, we decided to check out Meadowlark Botanical Garden. Not only is it beautiful, it’s about 10 minutes away!

First off, the park isn’t that big, but if you take your time, you can really enjoy it. The landscaping is really something special.

The lakes are clear—so clear in fact, you can see all of the koi swimming a few feet under the water.

IMG 1755

The paths are all connected, and it’s easy enough for anyone to enjoy.

IMG 1756

This was one of my favorite parts of the park.

IMG 1759

You can see there’s plenty of activity in the water. The koi are huge, as are the snapping turtles.

IMG 1764

There’s a part of the park that’s considered “wet lands”, and this path runs through it.

This is a korean bell tower.

These alien-looking pods contain some sort of asian nut, according to my dad. They’re really sharp, and I wouldn’t recommend handling them with your bare hands.

IMG 1781

There were thousands of different specie plants. I’d probably avoid this place if you have strong allergies.

And of course, a small bonsai garden.

I highly recommend the Meadowlark Botanical Garden. It takes about 1-1.5 hours to walk around.

Cars and Coffee: Everyone Else

I met up with one of my buddies at the cars and coffee. Here’s his 993 sitting in the spotlight.

Lovely whale tail.

IMG 1726

Oldies, but goodies.

IMG 1730

IMG 1731

I like everything on the Mini except the chrome wheels.

IMG 1732

Jaguar F-Type.

IMG 1733

Vintage BMW. Not sure exactly what it is. Can anyone identify it?

IMG 1735

Supra.

IMG 1738

Poor choice in scenery for these 911’s.

IMG 1740

458 Italia. I know everyone loves it… and I hate to be like everyone… but g’damn those are some breath taking lines.

I wonder if this guy lives in my neighborhood. You don’t see 1 Series M’s often.

Cars and Coffee: Aventador

I went to cars and coffee this weekend, and to my delight, I saw a Lamborghini Aventador.

This thing was pretty bananas. V12, 700hp, 4wd, carbon fiber body, carbon fiber monocoque with aluminum front/rear frames, etc. $400k.

Just to give you a little contrast, here’s a Gallardo sitting across from the Aventador.

Petrified Animals in Tanzania

Photographed by Nick Brandt in his new book, Across the Ravaged Land, petrified creatures pepper the area around the lake due to its constant pH of 9 to 10.5—an extremely basic alkalinity that preserves these creatures for eternity. –Gizmodo

Pretty fascinating. The article exaggerates a little bit, but it’s pretty interesting to see how the PH levels have stopped the decomposition process.

30′ Giant Squid in Spain

Beachgoers in the Spanish community of Cantabria were astonished Tuesday when they stumbled onto the carcass of a giant squid that had washed ashore almost fully intact. The deep-sea denizen—the fabled and mysterious Architeuthis Dux—measured 30 feet and weighed nearly 400 pounds.

That is some serious calamari. Read more here.
