172 services integrated with AddThis… and counting.

We just integrated some new sharing and bookmark services into AddThis. And now, here’s what the entire list looks like. The interesting thing is that we’re moving into a bigger space. In some ways, AddThis is no longer just “sharing” and “bookmarking” pages. We now have services that enable users to translate a page, create image galleries, create videos channels, saving notes to google reader, and much more. Hooman’s vision (our CEO) is to be the “switchboard of the web”… and the image featured above, shows just that.

Since our service directory has grown, we’ve seen alot of new movers and shakers. Here’s what it looks like (above). These are the fastest growing in the last 30 days. I’m personally excited to see Tumblr in the this list… You guys should check out my porn links in my sidebar (they’re all tumblr pages).

You’ll notice Menéame, a spanish bookmarking site. It’s nice to see international sites getting more site traffic with our product. We’re noticing some huge growth with our international services.

As we grow, we want to be more transparent about our data. We want to share what we know with everyone. Our hope is that AddThis can help show different trends in social media and the world of sharing. Here’s a list of the top 20 services being used with AddThis globally (above).

What’s really interesting is seeing new services like Y!Mail, Gmail, and Viadeo (Similar to Linked-In… their HQ is in France) in our top 20—these are services that were added in the last month.

I would have thought Gmail would be higher than Y! Mail. Astonishing. The data doesn’t lie.

To help grow the AddThis Service Directory, we’ve added a simple way to suggest your favorite service if it’s not in our menu (above). Just do a search in our expanded menu. We’ve already received a ton of new submissions since this past tuesday.

If you’d like to see more AddThis data and social media trends, check out the AddThis Service Directory.

Vote for the AddThis Halloween Logo (sneak peak)

Each holiday, I try to come up with an original logo (under a time constraint). My hope is to try making our icon somewhat of an avatar for end users one day. I’d love to show a little personality and charisma with the orange plus.

This holiday I’d like to get your opinion. Please share your opinion, or any ideas. I will render the most popular one. (PS, I’m terrible at sketching. These were from a quick brainstorm with the team… so look at the concept, and not the execution).

1. Pumpkin

2. Frankenshare

3. Ghost

Out Takes I really like some of these, but we’ll have to be sensitive about using trademarked characters and offending anyone. Anyway, I liked them so much I thought I’d share them with you. Perhaps it’ll give someone else some inspiration for their Holiday logo.

AddThis in 50 languages. And counting. (A Visual Description)

AddThis is translated in over 50 languages, and provides the right language to the right person. In the diagram below, there are two people who speak different languages. Jeff’s (pictured left) native language is Chinese. You’ll notice that the menu interface automatically translates his menu and the services he uses. On the other hand, Jodi’s (pictured right) native language is Spanish—look at how she gets her Spanish menu. Isn’t that nice? ^_^

The logic was designed and built by the AddThis team, but the latest translations were contributed by the public. With the help a multilingual audience, AddThis is helping connect the web, in any language. I want to thank all the talented people who took the time to help us—they truly care about sharing. And they did it by using the AddThis Language Database (pictured below). The database shows all of our translated languages, as well as pending languages to be released in the near future.

Here are some of the translated buttons. You may recognize some of the languages. If you look closely, you’ll even see a button that looks backwards—we flopped the button around to help anyone who shares with AddThis in Arabic, so it looks correct in their native language. See all the buttons here.

I’m really looking forward to seeing more languages… even ones like Pirate or Klingon (because we’re nerds like that). Wanna give it a shot? Visit our Language Database. Or if you’d like to read more, check out the AddThis blog post about it.

Big hi-five to my team and all the talented people who helped translate AddThis.

How has AddThis become smarter? (a visual diagram)

AddThis has two menus that work harmoniously. The menu on the left is a compact menu of recommended services. If a service is not in that list, the user can click “more”, and an expanded menu of services appears.

Let’s say they wanted to share to Backflip—they simply click on it and it will appear at the top of the compact menu the next time they share. This means every menu is custom tailored to each person who uses it.

So let’s take Justin and Jodi—they live in two different parts of the world, speak different languages, and use different services. Their menu would look like this:

You’ll notice that even the menu is translated for them. There’s an algorithm that helps serve the right service to the right person.

It even works for me… although I can’t read chinese. But this is what it would look like if it were my native language.
