Pagani Huayra, Reviewed by Top Gear

Excited about the new Top Gear season starting up again. The first car they reviewed was the Pagani Huayra. Pretty fascinating to watch designers and engineers go bananas when the sky’s the limit.

While this is an astonishing piece of artwork, I still prefer a car that’s more simple… a car with less technology. I prefer being more connected to the car with less electronic layers between the driver and the road. I think Chris Harris explains it best in this video.

The Ultimate Knife Sharpener

I’ve been looking at the wicked edge knife sharpener for a while. It’s definitely on the expensive side, but I think it’d be great to get all my knives to cut through anything. Watch the video below to see how it works.

It’s on my wish list. I know there are more cost effective solutions out there, but it’d be great to some of my knives sharpened down to the micron.

Cast Iron vs Stainless Steel Pan

So I’ve been using the two for the last couple days and I’ve found the the cast iron pan is really good for cooking steak, bacon and other meats. However, I tend to favor the stainless steel pan for eggs, onions and vegetables.

This morning I cooked bacon and scrambled eggs again, and they came out much better. I cooked the bacon on the cast iron on a lower heat, and I scrambled the eggs on the stainless steel pan. You can compare this to the breakfast I made yesterday. Nonetheless, the best way I’ve cooked scrambled eggs was in a small teflon pot, Gordon Ramsey style. Check out the photo.

Last night, after volleyball, I cooked a small piece of steak. I think I’ve got it it pretty much nailed down now. I’ve been able to get a near-perfect medium rare every time. It’s pretty quick and easy—it all comes down to timing.

I think the next thing I’d like to learn is braising meat in a pressure cooker.

More Cooking

So here are the last meals I cooked recently.

This is an old recipe my mom showed me a long time ago. It’s just salty baked chicken with some seasoning. It’s pretty darn tasty, and super simple to make. It’s just chicken thigh, salt, garlic powder and parsley. Throw it in the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour, and it’s ready. Pretty easy!

I cooked a little breakfast this morning with the cast iron pan. I’ve found that I like my scrambled eggs better in the stainless steel pan or cooked in a small pot. The bacon, however, worked great in the iron pan.

Tuesday Music

I’ve been playing a bunch of Mario Galaxy 2 recently. Man, that game can get really hard. I love the challenge though. It’s probably one of the most creative games I’ve played in a while. It’s not addictive, but I would say it’s fun.

Anyway, here’s a orchestral version of one of the songs in the game. Enjoy! Hat tip: Patrick

Monday Music

My buddy sent me a link to a new game that he was pretty stoked about, called Journey. After looking at some of the game play, I might just have to pick it up. It visually looks incredible… but the music is what really made it special. Here are some songs from the game. It’s just absolutely stellar. Hat tip: Jon

This is up there with the Skyrim soundtrack.
