Designing 10E9.co

10e9 RD1 5

Foo and I worked on a quick refresh for Hooman’s new project, 10E9. I just wanted to share the design and give a huge kudos to Foo for mocking it up so quickly. He’s such a rock star.

What I really love about this projects is that we were able to stand it up so quickly (literally 1 evening). It’s refreshing to have a project with total freedom to drive things.

It still doesn’t work in mobile properly, but we’ll get to that soon. Stay tuned.

Designing at AddThis

DSC 0011

Now that we’ve finished releasing AddThis Pro, it’s time to get back to the rhythm of things. Some key take aways of designing here:

1. Share your ideas. Talk about them. Don’t design in a bubble. Talk to your team about setting the bar high.
2. Play to people’s strengths and compliment them. If they’re better working in google docs, let them punch out the bullet points they need. If they’re more visual, let them express everything with pictures.
3. Success breeds success. Carry the momentum of “winning” into each new feature.

Kudos to our design team for making it such a pleasure to work with. This has been one of our best designs yet.

Couch

11

Well, I think I’ve made a final decision on the couch. It seems that everyone likes the L shape couch the most, and it fits the space well. While it lacks flexibility, I think that’s okay—it offers comfort, durability and a sleek style.

I mocked what I’m hoping to accomplish in the future. I’ll be putting the couch on order this week.

Steve Jobs on Marketing

Couldn’t agree more. You can definitely tell Steve Jobs worked with Chiat/Day. When you really think about it, good marketing isn’t just creating great ads or a brand. Marketing can define a company’s position in an ocean of competitors and noise.

Most importantly, it can force a company to focus on a product strategy that differentiates them from everyone else… with a little twist to make it desirable.
